Mental Performance Training at The Lab
With Dr. Alyssa Barrett
At The Lab, we train the whole athlete - not just skills and strength, but the mindset required to perform when it matters most. Our Mental Toughness Program, led by Dr. Alyssa Barrett, helps athletes build the social emotional skills needed to thrive under pressure, overcome adversity, and compete with confidence.
Mental toughness is the ability to stay focused, resilient, and in control during high-pressure situations - a key factor in consistent athletic performance.
Our Philosophy
Great athletes don’t just train their bodies - they train their minds.
This program integrates mindset principles directly into athletic development, giving athletes tools they can use in practice, games, school, and life.
Our curriculum is built around the 4 C’s of Mental Toughness:
- Control
- Commitment
- Confidence
- Challenge
These four traits are widely recognized as the core pillars of mental performance and resilience in sport.
What Athletes Learn
Confidence & Self-Belief:
Athletes develop a strong internal belief system so they can trust their training, play freely, and bounce back after mistakes. Athletes learn to control the cntrollables and fail forward.
Emotional Control & Composure:
Players learn how to regulate nerves, frustration, and pressure so they can stay calm and focused during competition.
Focus & Game IQ:
Training includes concentration skills, visualization, and routines that help athletes stay locked in before and during games.
Resilience & Growth Mindset:
Athletes learn to view setbacks, losses, and challenges as opportunities to grow and improve.
Commitment & Goal Setting:
Players create clear goals and build accountability habits that translate to long-term success.
